Automatic transmission (AT) in Chevrolet Captiva
The Chevrolet Captiva automatic transmission has six gears and a gear lever located on the center console.
Basic gear shift diagram:
*P (Parking): Keeps the vehicle in place while parking.
* R (Reverse): Moves the vehicle backwards.
* N (Neutral): The transmission is not engaged and the engine is idling.
*D (Drive): Automatic forward shift for normal driving conditions.
* M (Manual Mode): Allows the driver to manually change gears using the +/- buttons on the gear lever.
Other functions of the gear shift lever:
*Emergency Shift Button: Located to the left of the gear shift lever. Press this button to shift the transmission to neutral if the main shift lever fails or becomes locked.
*Sport Button (Sport Mode): Activates Sport mode, which changes shift points for more aggressive driving.
* +/- button: Used to manually shift gears in manual mode (M).
Gear shift procedure:
1. Press the brake pedal.
2. Move the gear shift lever to the desired position.
3. Release the brake pedal and start driving.
Recommendations:
* Shift into park position (P) only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
* Do not shift to neutral (N) while driving.
* Use manual mode (M) only when necessary, for example when driving uphill or downhill.
* Regularly service the automatic transmission in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
