Self-diagnosis Toyota Corona ST190 automatic transmission

Preparation:

1. Turn off the engine and put the car in park.
2. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position (without starting the engine).
3. Press and hold the mileage reset button on the instrument cluster.

Procedure:

1. While holding the mileage reset button, turn on the headlights.
2. While continuing to hold the mileage reset button, turn off the headlights.
3. Hold the mileage reset button for another 5 seconds.
4. The “Check Engine” (CEL) indicator will flash on the instrument cluster display.

Reading fault codes:

1. For each Check Engine Light blink, record the corresponding number of blinks: short (1 blink) or long (2 blinks).
2. The flashing sequence indicates a fault code. For example:

* Short-short-long-long – code 24
* Long-short-short – code 13

Trouble code definition:

Compare the received codes with the table below:

Resetting fault codes:

1. Release the mileage reset button.
2. Turn off the ignition and remove the key.
3. Reconnect the battery terminals.
4. Start the engine.

Notes:

* Do not connect or disconnect the battery terminals while the ignition is on.
* If the “Check Engine” indicator does not flash on the display, the self-diagnosis device is faulty.
* Fault codes should only be cleared after the problem has been resolved.
