Self-diagnosis of Toyota automatic transmission

Required tools:

* OBDII diagnostic scanner
* Toyota repair manual for your car model

Self-diagnosis procedure:

1. Close the contacts of the diagnostic connector

* Locate the diagnostic connector under the dashboard on the driver’s side.
*According to the repair manual, locate the TC and CG pins.
* Connect these contacts using a paper clip or other conductor.

2. Turn on the ignition

* Do not start the engine.
* Turn the ignition to the “ON” position.

3. Read fault codes

* Connect the OBDII diagnostic scanner to the connector.
* Turn on the scanner and wait until it establishes a connection with the vehicle’s ECU.
* Select the trouble code diagnostic function.
* Read and write down the displayed fault codes.

4. Troubleshoot

* Decipher fault codes in the Toyota repair manual.
* Troubleshoot according to instructions.
* Reset fault codes after troubleshooting.

5. Check the operation of the automatic transmission

* Start the engine.
* Shift the gear lever to different positions.
* Check for smooth gear shifting and absence of extraneous noise.
*If automatic transmission problems persist, consult a qualified mechanic.
