Self-diagnosis of Toyota Corolla 100 automatic transmission using fault codes:
1. Press the brake pedal and move the automatic transmission selector to the “N” (neutral) position.
2. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
3. Within 5 seconds, press the accelerator pedal 5 times (not all the way).
4. Indicators D, 3, 2 and 1 will start flashing on the instrument panel.
* Flashing “D” indicator: shows the number of fault codes in tens.
* Flashing indicator “3”: shows the number of fault codes in units.
* Flashing indicators “2” and “1”: indicate a fault code.
For example: If the “D” indicator flashes once, and the “3” and “1” indicators flash twice, the fault code is 12.
Reading fault codes:
* 51: Malfunction in the speed sensor circuit
* 52: Malfunction in the throttle position sensor circuit
* 61: Malfunction in the pressure control solenoid circuit
* 62: Shift solenoid circuit malfunction
* 63: Malfunction in the torque converter lock-up solenoid circuit
* 71: Malfunction in the automatic transmission temperature sensor circuit
* 72: Malfunction in the automatic transmission pressure sensor circuit
* 73: Malfunction in the automatic transmission selector position sensor circuit
Resetting fault codes:
1. Disconnect the battery (negative).
2. Wait 10 minutes.
3. Connect the battery.
4. Get behind the wheel and start the engine.
5. Move the automatic transmission selector to various positions and back to “P” (park).
Note:
* If the “CHECK ENGINE” indicator is flashing on the instrument panel, it is necessary to read and decipher fault codes for the engine.
*Self-diagnosis does not always accurately identify all faults. For a complete diagnosis, it is recommended to contact a service station.
