Nissan X-Trail automatic transmission selector position sensor
Location:
The automatic transmission selector position sensor is located on the front of the automatic transmission housing, next to the gear shift cable.
Function:
The automatic transmission selector position sensor sends a signal to the automatic transmission control unit to determine which gear selector position is selected by the driver. This information is used to control the automatic transmission.
Signs of malfunction:
* Difficulty or inability to shift gears.
* Error on the dashboard related to the gearbox.
*Transmission slipping or slipping.
* Strange sounds or vibrations when shifting gears.
Causes of malfunction:
*Mechanical fault of the sensor.
* Electrical fault in the sensor or its wiring.
* Incorrect gear shift cable adjustment.
Diagnostics:
* Check the shift cable for binding or damage.
* Check the sensor wiring harness for damage.

Replacement:
Replacing the automatic transmission selector position sensor is relatively simple:
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Find the sensor on the automatic transmission.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector of the sensor.
4. Remove the sensor mounting nut.
5. Install the new sensor and tighten the nut.
6. Connect the electrical connector.
7. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
8. Reset the automatic transmission adaptations so that it can ‘learn’ the new sensor position.
