Location:
*Located under the central control console.
* Attached to the base of the gear selector rocker.
Function:
* Determines the position of the automatic transmission selector (P, R, N, D, S).
* This information is sent to the automatic transmission control module, which controls the transmission accordingly.
Symptoms of malfunction:
* Difficulty shifting gears.
* Gears do not shift properly.
*Check Engine light is on.
* A fault code is displayed indicating problems with the automatic transmission selector position sensor.
Fault diagnosis:
* OBD2 diagnostic scanner can be used to read trouble codes.
* Study the electrical circuits and connectors of the automatic transmission selector lever position sensor.
* Check that the wiring is not damaged and is securely connected.
* Use a voltmeter or oscilloscope to check the electrical signal from the sensor.
Sensor replacement:
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Remove the central control console.
* Find the automatic transmission selector position sensor and disconnect the electrical connector.
* Remove the mounting bolts and remove the sensor.
* Install the new sensor in place, tighten the mounting bolts.
* Connect the electrical connector and install the central control console.
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Clear fault codes.
