Master class on automatic transmission selector illumination on Nissan Pathfinder
Required materials:
* LED strip (preferably flexible)
* Wires (red for power, black for ground)
* Heat shrink tube
* Electrical tape
Tools:
* Flat head screwdriver
* Scissors or wire cutters
* Soldering iron (optional)
Instructions:
1. Removing the automatic transmission selector:
* Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Move the gear shift lever to the «Park» position.
* Using a flat-head screwdriver, pry up and remove the frame around the automatic transmission selector.
* Unscrew the screws securing the automatic transmission selector to the center console.
* Gently pull the automatic transmission selector towards you to disconnect it from the electrical connector.
2. Disassembly and preparation of the automatic transmission selector:
* Unscrew the screws securing the upper cover of the automatic transmission selector.
*Remove the top cover to access the interior.
3. Installation of LED strip:
*Measure and cut the LED strip to the required length.
* Install an LED strip around the perimeter of the automatic transmission selector.
* Use heat shrink tubing or electrical tape to insulate the solder points or contact areas between the LED strip and the wires.
4. Power and ground connection:
*Locate a permanent power source in the center console wiring (such as the cigarette lighter or light wire).
* Solder the red wire to the +12V pin of the LED strip.
* Solder the black wire to the GND pin of the LED strip.
* If you don’t have a soldering iron, you can use female-male connectors.
5. Automatic transmission selector assembly:
* Connect the electrical connector to the automatic transmission selector.
* Attach the automatic transmission selector to the center console.
* Install the automatic transmission selector upper cover and tighten the screws.
6. Installation and testing:
* Install the frame around the automatic transmission selector and secure it.
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Start the engine and change gears to check the backlight.
Adviсe:
* For more uniform illumination, use LED strip with a high number of LEDs per meter.
* To prevent LEDs from burning out, connect a resistor to them.
* Make sure all connections are well insulated to prevent short circuits.
