Step 1: Removing the selector

* Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
* Remove the plastic trim around the selector base.
* Disconnect the electrical connectors from the selector lever.
* Remove the bolts securing the selector to the transmission.
* Carefully remove the selector.

Step 2: Disassembling the selector

*For 1995-2000 model:
* Remove the two screws at the top of the selector.
* Separate the two halves of the selector.
*For model years 2000-2002:
*Press the plastic clips on the sides of the top of the selector.
* Remove the upper part of the selector.

Step 3: Removing the Shifter

* Remove the spring and plastic pin from the top of the selector.
*Press the plastic latch on the back of the shifter.
* Remove the gear selector.

Step 4: Cleaning and Inspection

* Clean all selector parts thoroughly with alcohol.
* Inspect parts for wear, cracks or damage.
* Replace any damaged parts.

Step 5: Selector Assembly

* Insert the gear selector into the top of the selector.
* Reinstall the spring and plastic pin.
*For 1995-2000 model:
* Align the two halves of the selector and tighten the screws.
*For model years 2000-2002:
* Reinstall the top of the selector and snap the plastic clips into place.

Step 6: Selector Installation

* Reinstall the selector and tighten the mounting bolts.
* Connect the electrical connectors.
* Reinstall the plastic trim around the selector base.
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.

Note:

* Before connecting the negative terminal of the battery, reset the transmission by performing the adaptation procedure.
*If you are unsure of your skills or are experiencing difficulties, it is recommended that you consult a qualified mechanic.
