Running in the automatic transmission after repair
Running in is necessary to break in new parts and remove metal shavings that may have formed during repairs.
Break-in process:
1. Prepare the car:
* Make sure the fluid level in the gearbox is sufficient.
* Warm up the engine to operating temperature.
2. Slow start:
* Start driving smoothly, without sudden acceleration or braking.
* Avoid placing heavy loads on the gearbox.
3. Gear shift:
* Shift gears smoothly and slowly.
* Avoid abrupt gear changes, especially from reverse to forward.
4. Different speed:
* Drive on different types of roads to use all transmission modes.
* Periodically increase and decrease speed.
5. Progressive load:
* Gradually increase the load on the gearbox.
* After 100-150 km you can accelerate slightly, but avoid kick-down.
6. Divide the mileage:
*Do not drive the entire distance in one go.
* Split your mileage into several trips over several days.
7. Run-in mileage:
* The minimum running-in mileage is approximately 500 km.
* For complex repairs, up to 1000 km may be required.
Additionally:
* During break-in, monitor the fluid level and condition of the gearbox.
* If you notice unusual sounds or vibrations, stop driving and contact your mechanic.
* After break-in, replace the fluid in the gearbox.
