Let’s consider replacing the automatic transmission reverse sensor on a Mercedes-Benz W124:
Tools and materials:
* 10 mm wrench
* 5 mm hex key
* Sealant for threaded connections
* Lubrication
Steps:
1. Place the car on a level surface. It is recommended to use the parking brake for this task.
2. Locate the reverse sensor. It is located on the transmission housing on the passenger side. It is usually blue or green in color.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector of the sensor. Simply press the clamp and pull the connector.
4. Remove the reverse sensor using a 5mm hex key.
5. Apply sealant to the threads of the new reverse sensor. This will help prevent leaks.
6. Insert the new sensor into the transmission housing and tighten it using a 5mm hex key. Don’t over-tighten.
7. Connect the electrical connector to the sensor.
8. Lubricate the new sensor gasket with transmission oil.
9. Install a new gasket on the reverse sensor.
10. Tighten the reverse sensor using a 10mm wrench.
Examination:
* Start the car and engage reverse gear.
*Press the brake pedal and turn on the reverse lights.
* The reversing lights should work.

* Some Mercedes-Benz W124 models may have two reverse sensors. If you are having trouble turning on your reverse lights, you may need to replace both sensors.
*Threaded connections should only be tightened to the required torque. Avoid over-tightening as this may damage the sensor or transmission housing.
