Automatic transmission oil pump restoration
The automatic transmission oil pump is a component that is responsible for supplying transmission fluid to various elements of the transmission for lubrication, cooling and gear shifting. Below are the steps to restore the automatic transmission oil pump:
1. Dismantling the automatic transmission
* Disconnect the shift cable and shift lever actuators.
* Disconnect the vacuum hoses and electrical connectors.
* Remove the automatic transmission mounting bolts and carefully remove it from the engine.
2. Disassembling the oil pump
* Separate the pan from the automatic transmission housing.
* Remove the oil pump filter and screen.
* Unscrew the bolts securing the oil pump to the automatic transmission housing and remove the pump.
3. Disassembling the oil pump
* Inspect the pump housing for wear or damage.
* Remove all pump components, including vanes, rotor and gears.
* Clean all components thoroughly with carburetor cleaner or degreaser.
4. Evaluation of pump components
* Check the blades for signs of wear or damage. Replace warped or cracked blades.
* Inspect the rotor and gears for wear or binding. Replace worn or damaged components.
5. Replacing seals
*All oil pump seals must be replaced during rebuilding. Lubricate new seals with transmission fluid before installation.
6. Pump assembly
* Reassemble the oil pump in reverse order, starting with installing the rotor and gears.
* Install the blades onto the rotor and tighten the bolts to specifications.
* Install the pump components into the pump body and tighten the bolts.
7. Installing the pump in the automatic transmission
* Install a new filter and strainer on the oil pump.
* Place the pump in place in the automatic transmission housing and secure it with bolts.
* Reinstall the pan on the automatic transmission housing and tighten the bolts.
8. Checking the pump operation
* Reinstall the automatic transmission onto the engine.
* Connect the vacuum hoses and electrical connectors.
* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Check the transmission fluid level and add it if necessary.
9. Test ride
*Once the fluid level is correct, take a short test drive.
* Check whether the gear shifts correctly and there are no leaks.
Important:
* Restoring an automatic transmission oil pump is a complex process that requires special tools and knowledge. If you do not have the necessary experience, it is recommended that you contact a qualified transmission technician.
* Use high quality parts and follow the manufacturer’s instructions when replacing components.
*Clean all components thoroughly before assembly to prevent debris from entering the system.
* Check the transmission fluid level regularly and change it according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
