Resetting automatic transmission adaptations after changing the oil

Goal: Clear the automatic transmission memory so that it adapts to the new fluid and ensures optimal operation.

Required tools:

* OBD-II diagnostic scanner
* OBD-II cable

Steps:

1. Connect the OBD-II scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic port. The port is usually located under the dashboard or under the hood.
2. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
3. Switch the scanner to the Electronic Transmission Control Module (TCM) function.
4. Select “Transmission Adaptations” or “Reset Adaptations”.
5. Confirm the reset by following the instructions on the scanner screen.
6. Wait until the reset is complete. Reset time may vary depending on vehicle model.
7. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will ensure that the system is filled with new fluid and will allow the automatic transmission to adapt to new conditions.
8. Take a test drive. This will help the automatic transmission recalibrate to the new fluid and driving mode.

Note:

* Some cars may not have the automatic transmission adaptation reset function. In this case, you can reset them by unplugging the battery for 30 minutes and plugging it back in.
*Always consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual before performing any maintenance work.
*Make sure you are using the correct automatic transmission fluid as specified in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
