Tools and materials:

* New automatic transmission torque converter
* Set of socket wrenches
* Hex key set
* Hammer or mallet
* Mounting crowbar
* Sealant for gaskets
* Automatic transmission oil
* Torque converter gasket
* Automatic transmission oil filter
* Rubber gloves

Precautions:

* Provide a crawl space to support the vehicle when lifting.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Allow the engine and transmission to cool before starting work.
* Wear safety glasses and gloves while working.

Instructions:

1. Raise the vehicle: Use a lifting device to raise the vehicle and provide access to the underbody. Install supports.

2. Drain the automatic transmission oil: Find the drain plug on the automatic transmission housing and place a container under it. Unscrew the plug and drain the oil into a container.

3. Remove the automatic transmission pan: Unscrew the bolts holding the automatic transmission pan and remove the pan.

4. Remove the torque converter bolts: Locate the bolts holding the torque converter to the flywheel. Loosen the bolts, but do not remove them completely.

5. Disconnect the torque converter and flywheel: Grasp the torque converter housing and gently pull it away from the flywheel. You may need to use a crowbar to carefully pry them off.

6. Remove the torque converter: Remove the torque converter from the automatic transmission.

7. Replace the torque converter gasket: Apply a thin layer of gasket sealant to the torque converter gasket and install it on the new torque converter.

8. Install a new torque converter: Install a new torque converter in the automatic transmission and secure it with bolts, tightening them to the prescribed torque.

9. Attach the torque converter to the flywheel: Attach the torque converter housing to the flywheel by aligning them and engaging them. Tighten the torque converter mounting bolts to the specified torque.

10. Install the automatic transmission sump: Clean the surfaces of the sump and automatic transmission housing. Apply a thin coat of gasket sealant to the new pan gasket and install it to the pan. Install the pan onto the crankcase and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

11. Replace the automatic transmission oil filter: Remove the old oil filter and install a new one. Tighten the oil filter bolt to the specified torque.

12. Fill the automatic transmission oil: Fill the automatic transmission with new oil using a funnel. Fill with the recommended type and volume of oil.

13. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.

14. Start the engine: Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.

15. Check the automatic transmission oil level: Check the automatic transmission oil level dipstick and add oil if necessary.

Notes:

* Before replacing the torque converter, it is recommended that you perform an automatic transmission diagnostic to determine whether the problem is actually in the torque converter.
*Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for tightening bolts.
* Avoid using excessive force during assembly as this may damage components.
* Dispose of used oil and filters according to local regulations.
