Required tools and materials:
* Wrench set
* Flat head screwdriver
* New automatic transmission selector microswitch
* Contact cleaner (optional)
Replacement instructions:
1. Security:
* Turn off the engine and place the car in park.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Removing the automatic transmission selector:
* Remove the decorative panel around the automatic transmission selector.
* Disconnect the connector from the automatic transmission selector.
* Using a wrench, unscrew the nuts securing the automatic transmission selector to the console.
* Remove the automatic transmission selector by pulling it up.
3. Disconnecting the microswitch:
* Carefully disconnect the connector from the automatic transmission selector microswitch.
* Using a flat-head screwdriver, pry and disconnect the microswitch from the automatic transmission selector.
4. Clean contacts (optional):
* If the microswitch or automatic transmission selector contacts are dirty or oxidized, use contact cleaner to clean them.
5. Installing a new microswitch:
* Connect the new microswitch to the automatic transmission selector.
* Connect the connector to the microswitch.
6. Installation of the automatic transmission selector:
* Install the automatic transmission selector on the console.
* Tighten the nuts securing the automatic transmission selector.
* Connect the connector to the automatic transmission selector.
7. Installation of decorative panel:
* Reinstall the decorative panel around the automatic transmission selector.
8. Battery connection:
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
9. Checking operation:
* Start the engine and check the operation of the automatic transmission selector. It should switch smoothly to all modes.
Note: Some Skoda Rapid models may require additional programming of the microswitch using diagnostic equipment. Have this procedure performed by a qualified mechanic.
