Tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission shank
* Set of spanners and screwdrivers
* Automatic transmission oil
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Rags
* Oil drain container
Precautions:
* Before starting work, make sure that the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secured with the parking brake.
* Allow the engine and exhaust system to cool.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
Replacement procedure:
1. Draining the automatic transmission oil
* Place a container under the automatic transmission pan.
* Unscrew the drain plug and drain the oil.
* Tighten the drain plug with a new washer.
2. Removing the automatic transmission pan
* Unscrew the bolts around the perimeter of the automatic transmission pan.
* Carefully remove the pan while removing the gasket.
* Remove the remnants of the old gasket from the pan and automatic transmission surfaces.
3. Removing the automatic transmission shank
* Disconnect the driveshaft from the shank flange.
* Unscrew the bolts securing the shank to the automatic transmission housing.
* Remove the old shank.
4. Installation of a new automatic transmission shank
* Install the new shank in place of the old one and tighten the bolts.
* Connect the driveshaft to the shank flange.
5. Installing the automatic transmission pan
* Install a new pan gasket.
* Apply sealant to the mating surface of the pan and the automatic transmission housing.
* Install the pan and tighten the bolts.
6. Filling automatic transmission oil
* Open the filler plug on the automatic transmission.
* Fill the automatic transmission oil to the level indicated on the dipstick.
* Tighten the filler plug.
7. Checking and running in
*Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Check the automatic transmission oil level with the engine running.
* Carry out a short run-in of the car, changing gears.
* Check for oil leaks.
Note: After replacing the automatic transmission shank, it is recommended to contact a service station to check the operation of the system and reset the automatic transmission adaptations, if required.
