Tools and materials:
* Wrench set
* Screwdriver
* Oil seal remover
* New shank oil seal
* Rags
* Parts cleaner
* Lubricant for oil seals
Precautions:
* Make sure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is set.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Allow the engine and transmission to cool.
* Wear personal protective equipment such as gloves and safety glasses.
Instructions:
1. Clean the area: Remove dirt and debris from the rear of the transmission where the tail seal is located.
2. Disconnect the driveshaft: Use a wrench to loosen the bolts connecting the driveshaft to the transmission shank. Remove the driveshaft and set it aside.
3. Remove the mounting bolts: Use a wrench to loosen and remove the bolts that secure the transmission shank to the transmission housing.
4. Remove the transmission shank: Carefully pull the shank toward you to remove it from the transmission housing.
5. Remove the old oil seal: Use a screwdriver or oil seal puller to remove the old oil seal from the groove on the shank.
6. Clean the seat: Thoroughly clean the oil seal seat on the shank and in the transmission housing using parts cleaner.
7. Lubricate the new oil seal: Apply a small amount of oil seal lubricant to the inner and outer edges of the new oil seal.
8. Install a new seal: Manually insert the new seal into the seat on the shank. Make sure it is inserted straight and level.
9. Install the transmission shank: Insert the shank back into the transmission housing. Torque the mounting bolts to torque specifications.
10. Install the driveshaft: Attach the driveshaft to the automatic transmission shank and tighten the bolts.
11. Check the transmission fluid level: Start the engine and let it idle. Check the transmission fluid level and add if necessary.
12. Connect the battery: Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
13. Test the automatic transmission: Drive the car for a short time to check the tightness of the oil seal and the normal operation of the automatic transmission.
