Required tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission temperature sensor
* Set of wrenches or ratchets
* Container for draining automatic transmission fluid (optional)
Instructions for replacing the Nissan automatic transmission temperature sensor:
1. Parking the vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2. Engine Cooling: Allow the engine to cool before operating.
3. Disconnecting the battery terminal: Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent short circuit.
4. Determining the location of the sensor: The automatic transmission temperature sensor is usually located on the automatic transmission housing or on the automatic transmission cooling line. Locate the electrical connector connected to the sensor.
5. Disconnecting the connector: Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor by pressing the latch and pulling the connector.
6. Unscrewing the sensor: Using a wrench or ratchet, carefully unscrew the automatic transmission temperature sensor from the housing. Be careful not to damage the threads.
7. Lubricate the new sensor: Apply a small amount of thread sealant or Teflon paste to the threads of the new sensor.
8. Screwing in the new sensor: Screw the new sensor into the housing and tighten it to the recommended torque (usually indicated on the sensor packaging).
9. Connector Connection: Connect the electrical connector back to the sensor.
10. Starting the engine: Start the engine and run it for a few minutes to check the sensor for leaks.
11. Checking the automatic transmission fluid level: If you drained the automatic transmission fluid to access the sensor, check the fluid level and add if necessary.
12. Resetting Trouble Codes: If the MIL comes on after replacing the sensor, you may need to clear trouble codes using an OBD2 scanner.
