Tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission filter
* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* Rags
* Ratchet wrench or socket wrench set
* Oil drain pan
* New automatic transmission oil (volume may vary depending on Eclipse model)
Procedure for replacing the automatic transmission filter:
1. Warm up the engine and automatic transmission. This will help thin the oil and make it easier to drain.
2. Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
3. Find the automatic transmission pan. It is usually located at the bottom of the transmission and has bolts attached to it.
4. Place a pan under the drain hole in the automatic transmission pan.
5. Carefully unscrew the drain plug. Oil will begin to flow out. Wait for most of the oil to drain.
6. Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan. Be careful as some more oil may spill out.
7. Remove the automatic transmission pan. The automatic transmission filter will be located inside the pan.
8. Remove the old automatic transmission filter.
9. Clean the pan and magnet on the drain plug of any metal shavings or deposits.*
10. Install a new automatic transmission filter. Make sure it is installed correctly.
11. Install a new automatic transmission pan gasket.
12. Reinstall the automatic transmission pan. Tighten the mounting bolts.
13. Fill new automatic transmission oil into the gearbox. Use a funnel or pump to fill the oil. Fill in the required amount of oil specified in the vehicle’s operating manual.
14. Check the automatic transmission oil level. Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil should be between the “MIN” and “MAX” marks on the dipstick.
15. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Shift the gear selector through all positions and return it to the park position.
16. Check the automatic transmission oil level again. Add oil if necessary.
