Materials:

* Automatic transmission inhibitor
* Automatic transmission inhibitor gasket
* Transmission fluid
* Engine cleaner
* Transmission sealant

Tools:

* Set of wrenches or ratchets
* Phillips screwdriver
* Stiff bristle brush
* Funnel

Replacement procedure:

1. Remove the negative battery terminal

To ensure safety, turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Raise the car

Raise the front of the car on lifts or jacks to gain access to the underbody.

3. Locate the automatic transmission inhibitor

The automatic transmission inhibitor is usually located on the side of the transmission. Inspect the transmission and locate the switch that has two wires going to it.

4. Clean the area around the inhibitor

Use engine cleaner and a stiff bristle brush to remove dirt and deposits from the area around the inhibitor.

5. Disconnect the wires

Disconnect the wires from the automatic transmission inhibitor using a Phillips screwdriver.

6. Unscrew the inhibitor bolts

Use a wrench or ratchet to remove the bolts holding the inhibitor to the transmission.

7. Remove inhibitor

Carefully remove the automatic transmission inhibitor from the transmission.

8. Install a new gasket

Apply a small amount of transmission sealant to the new gasket and install it to the transmission.

9. Install a new inhibitor

Install the new automatic transmission inhibitor onto the gasket and tighten it with bolts.

10. Connect the wires

Connect the wires to the new automatic transmission inhibitor.

11. Check fluid level

Pour transmission fluid into the transmission through a funnel until the level reaches the “cold” mark on the dipstick. Start the engine and shift the gear through different positions to circulate the fluid.

12. Check for leaks

Inspect the area around the inhibitor for fluid leaks. If there are no leaks, reassemble the vehicle.

13. Connect the battery terminal

Connect the negative terminal of the battery and tighten the nut.

14. Check the system

Start the engine and check if the automatic transmission inhibitor is working properly.
