Tools and materials:
* Set of keys and sockets
* Screwdrivers
* Hexagons
* Torque wrench
* Grease for CV joints
* New inner CV joint
Instructions:
1. Preparation:
* Put the car on the parking brake.
* Make sure the engine is off and cool.
* Raise the front of the car from the side where the faulty CV joint is located and secure it on jack stands.
2. Wheel removal:
* Unscrew the wheel bolts and remove the wheel.
3. Removing the wheel hub:
* Unscrew the hub nut.
* Disconnect the ball joint from the wheel hub.
* Carefully remove the hub along with the brake caliper and disc.
* Hang the hub on a wire to avoid damaging the brake hose.
4. Removing the drive shaft:
* The drive shaft is attached to the gearbox with a tripod CV joint.
* Remove the bolts securing the tripod CV joint to the gearbox.
* Carefully remove the drive shaft.
5. Removing the inner CV joint:
* Secure the drive shaft in a vice.
* Using a hammer and chisel, carefully remove the inner CV joint ring.
* Disconnect the CV joint from the drive shaft by pulling it towards you.
6. Installing a new inner CV joint:
* Apply CV joint grease to the drive shaft splines.
* Install the new CV joint on the drive shaft and secure it with the circlip.
* Make sure the stand ring is installed correctly.
7. Drive shaft installation:
* Insert the drive shaft into the gearbox and secure the tripod CV joint with bolts.
*Tighten the mounting bolts using a torque wrench to manufacturer’s specifications.
8. Wheel hub installation:
* Reinstall the wheel hub onto the drive shaft.
* Connect the ball joint and secure the hub nut.
* Make sure the hub is torqued to the correct torque.
9. Wheel installation:
* Install the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts with a torque wrench.
10. Final check:
* Lower the vehicle and remove it from the jack stands.
* Tighten the hub and wheel bolts as much as possible.
* Make sure all connections are securely tightened.
