Required tools and materials:
* Torque converter
* Torque converter gasket
* Transmission fluid
* Transmission pan plug
* Keys and socket heads
* Oil drain device
* Jack and stands
Procedure:
1. Prepare the vehicle: Place the vehicle in park, apply the handbrake and jack it up. Place stands under the vehicle for safety.
2. Drain transmission fluid: Locate the transmission pan plug and drain the fluid into a container.
3. Remove the transmission pan: Remove the bolts securing the pan and carefully separate it from the transmission.
4. Remove the torque converter: Remove the bolts holding the torque converter to the flywheel. Insert a flathead screwdriver between the torque converter and the flywheel and carefully pry them apart.
5. Install the new torque converter: Place the new torque converter into the transmission housing and secure it with bolts. Make sure it is installed and tightened correctly.
6. Install the torque converter gasket: Install a new gasket between the torque converter and the flywheel.
7. Connect the torque converter bolts: Connect the bolts securing the torque converter to the flywheel and tighten them to specifications.
8. Install the transmission pan: Clean the surfaces of the pan and transmission. Apply sealant to the pan and install it in place. Secure with bolts.
9. Fill with transmission fluid: Fill the transmission with new transmission fluid to the recommended level.
10. Reset the odometer for a fluid change: Connect the scan tool and reset the odometer for a transmission fluid change.
11. Check operation: Start the engine and shift through all gears to ensure proper operation.
12. Lower the vehicle: Lower the vehicle from the stands.
Notes:
*Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for replacing the torque converter.
*Ensure that the transmission fluid used is within the recommended specification.
*Be sure to tighten the bolts to specifications.
* Dispose of drained liquid properly.
