Required tools and materials:
* Jack and stands
* Wrench set
* Set of ratchets
* Hammer
* Screwdriver
* New front-wheel drive automatic transmission oil seal
* Automatic transmission oil
Instructions:
1. Preparation:
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
* Remove the front wheel from the side where you will be replacing it.
2. Removing the front drive shaft:
* Unscrew the hub drive nut.
* Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
* Carefully slide the drive shaft out of the transmission.
3. Removing the oil seal:
* Clean the area around the oil seal from dirt and oil.
* Using a screwdriver, carefully pry and remove the old oil seal.
4. Installing a new oil seal:
* Lubricate the inside of the new oil seal with automatic transmission oil.
* Install a new oil seal into the socket in the gearbox.
* A hammer and a suitable mandrel can be used to install the oil seal. Make sure the oil seal is installed all the way.
5. Drive shaft installation:
* Lubricate the splined part of the drive shaft with automatic transmission oil.
* Insert the drive shaft back into the gearbox.
* Install the hub drive nut.
* Attach the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
* Install the wheel.
6. Completion:
* Add automatic transmission oil to the required level and check for leaks.
* Tighten the hub drive nut to the recommended torque.
* Perform a test drive to check the operation of the drive and seal.
Notes:
* Always use automatic transmission oil recommended by the manufacturer.
*If you are unsure of your skills, ask a mechanic for help.
* Leaking automatic transmission oil can cause serious damage. Repair any leaks immediately.
