Replacing the front crankshaft oil seal of an automatic transmission

Required tools and materials:

* Set of socket wrenches and sockets
* Flat head screwdriver
* Oil filter removal wrench
* New front crankshaft oil seal
* Sealant for gaskets
* Cleaning solvent
* Rags

Replacement procedure:

1. Preparation

* Remove the negative terminal of the battery.
* Drain the oil from the automatic transmission.
* Raise the car on a lift or place it on stands.

2. Dismantling

* Disconnect the drive shafts from the transmission.
* Remove the starter.
* Remove the bolts securing the torque converter to the crankshaft.
* Carefully remove the torque converter while holding it by the converter clutch.

3. Removing the old oil seal

* Use a screwdriver to pry up the old front oil seal and remove it from the crankshaft.

4. Surface cleaning

* Clean the crankshaft surface and oil seal seat with solvent.

5. Installing a new oil seal

* Apply gasket sealant to the oil seal seat.
* Insert the new oil seal into the seat.
* Gently tap the seal into place using a hammer and an appropriately sized driver.

6. Assembly

* Reinstall the torque converter and secure with bolts.
* Install the starter.
* Install the drive shafts.
* Pour new oil into the automatic transmission.

7. Final check

* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Check for oil leaks at the oil seal installation location.
