Tools and materials:
* Set of socket wrenches
* Hammer
* Flat head screwdriver
* New drive shaft oil seal
* Rags
* Solvent
Procedure:
1. Preparation
* Set the vehicle to the parking brake and engage Park (P) gear.
* Raise the front of the car with a jack and install safety stands.
* Remove the front wheel from the side where you want to replace the oil seal.
2. Removing the drive shaft
* Unscrew the bolts securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle and disconnect the ball joint.
* Remove the clamp securing the drive shaft boot to the gearbox and unscrew the bolts securing the shaft to the drive flange on the gearbox.
* Gently pull the drive shaft outward until it comes out of the transmission.
3. Removing the oil seal
* Clean the area around the oil seal with solvent.
*Using a flathead screwdriver, carefully pry and remove the oil seal from the transmission housing.
4. Installing a new oil seal
* Clean the oil seal seating surface on the gearbox housing.
* Lubricate the new oil seal with transmission fluid.
*Using a mandrel or a suitable piece of pipe, carefully tap the seal into place by tapping it with a hammer. Make sure the oil seal is installed level and flush with the housing.
5. Installation of the drive shaft
* Insert the drive shaft back into the gearbox.
* Tighten the bolts securing the shaft to the drive flange on the box.
* Install the drive shaft boot and secure it with a clamp.
* Attach the ball joint to the steering knuckle and tighten the bolts.
6. Lowering the car
* Lower the vehicle and remove the safety stands.
* Reinstall the wheel and tighten the nuts.
Adviсe:
* Use a new oil seal designed for the specific model and year of your vehicle.
* Fill the transmission with transmission fluid to the recommended level.
* Check for leaks by driving the car for several kilometers.
