Tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission filter (Honda Part No. 25430-PLR-003)
* New automatic transmission pan gasket (Honda Part No. 25430-PLR-010)
* Automatic transmission fluid (Dexron III or Honda ATF-Z1)
* Set of wrenches and ratchets
* Flathead screwdriver or scraper
* Funnel
* Gloves
Instructions:
1. Preparation
* Start the engine and warm up the gearbox.
* Turn off the engine and place the vehicle on a lift or ramps.
* Wear gloves.
2. Draining the automatic transmission fluid
* Locate the transmission pan, which is usually located at the bottom of the transmission.
* Place a container under the car to collect the liquid.
* Loosen the drain plug on the automatic transmission pan and drain the fluid into a container.
*Allow the liquid to drain completely, which may take a few minutes.
* Tighten the drain plug.
3. Removing the automatic transmission pan
* Gently pry the transmission pan with a flathead screwdriver or scraper to remove it from the transmission housing.
* Remove the automatic transmission pan.
4. Replacing the automatic transmission filter
*Locate the old automatic transmission filter, which is usually bolted to the transmission housing.
* Unscrew the bolts securing the filter.
*Remove the old filter and install a new one.
* Tighten the bolts of the new filter.
5. Installing the automatic transmission pan
* Install a new gasket under the automatic transmission pan.
* Install the automatic transmission pan onto the gearbox housing.
* Tighten the bolts securing the pan.
6. Filling with automatic transmission fluid
* Locate the automatic transmission filler plug, which is usually located at the top of the transmission.
* Remove the filler plug and insert the funnel.
* Pour new automatic transmission fluid into the transmission until it begins to flow out of the filler plug.
* Install the filler plug.
7. Checking the automatic transmission fluid level
* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
* Shift the gear shift lever to each position and return it to Park (P) position.
* Remove the automatic transmission dipstick, wipe it dry and insert it back.
* Pull out the dipstick again and check the automatic transmission fluid level. The level should be between the “cold” and “hot” marks.
*If the fluid level is not within the specified range, add or drain fluid as needed.
8. Cleaning and starting the engine
* Clean spilled automatic transmission fluid with a rag.
* Reset the automatic transmission service counter if your vehicle is equipped with one.
* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
* Check for automatic transmission fluid leaks.
Adviсe:
* When replacing the automatic transmission filter, it is recommended to also replace the automatic transmission fluid.
* Before installing a new automatic transmission filter, check that the rubber seals fit tightly.
* Tighten bolts to the specified torque.
* Dispose of used automatic transmission fluid in accordance with local environmental regulations.
