Required tools and materials:
* New transmission filter
* Transmission housing gasket
* Transmission fluid (ATF)
* Set of keys
* Liquid collection tray
* Gloves
Steps:
1. Prepare the vehicle: Place the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake and jack up the front of the vehicle.
2. Locate the Transmission Housing: Locate the transmission housing, which is usually located at the bottom of the transmission.
3. Drain the transmission fluid: Place a drain pan under the crankcase to collect the fluid. Unscrew the drain plug and drain all fluid from the transmission.
4. Remove the transmission housing: After the fluid has been drained, remove the bolts or screws holding the housing to the transmission. Remove the crankcase carefully as there may be some fluid left in it.
5. Remove the old filter: The filter is usually attached to the valve body in the crankcase. Carefully remove the old filter.
6. Install the new filter: Lubricate the rubber O-ring of the new ATF filter and install it in place. Tighten it by hand until it stops.
7. Install the crankcase gasket: Apply sealant to the new crankcase gasket and install it to the crankcase.
8. Reinstall the transmission housing: Carefully install the housing onto the transmission and tighten the bolts or screws according to the torque pattern specified in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
9. Fill with ATF: Pour new ATF into the transmission through the filler hole. Use a funnel to avoid spills.
10. Check the ATF fluid level: Start the engine and let it idle. Check the ATF fluid level using the dipstick and add more fluid if necessary.
11. Test drive: Drive the vehicle a short distance to ensure that the transmission operates properly.
12. Check for Leaks: Inspect the transmission housing for leaks. If there are leaks, carefully tighten the bolts or screws.
