Tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission speed sensor
* Wrench or open-end wrench
* Screwdriver or socket wrench
* Rags
* Brake cleaner or degreaser
Instructions:
1. Ensure safety: Place the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Locate the sensor: The automatic transmission speed sensor is usually located on the top of the transmission near the drive shaft.
3. Clean the area: Wipe the sensor and surrounding area with brake cleaner or degreaser to remove any dirt or oil.
4. Disconnect the connector: Press the connector lock and disconnect it from the speed sensor.
5. Unscrew the sensor: Use a wrench or open-end wrench to unscrew the speed sensor from the transmission. Be careful not to damage the threads.
6. Lubricate the new sensor: Apply a small amount of grease to the O-ring of the new sensor.
7. Install the new sensor: Screw the new sensor into the transmission by hand until it is tight, and then tighten it with a wrench or wrench.
8. Connect the connector: Connect the connector to the speed sensor and secure it.
9. Reset the error code: If an automatic transmission speed sensor error code has been set, use a trouble code scanner to reset it.
10. Connect the battery: Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
11. Check operation: Start the engine and shift the gear through different positions to check that the speed sensor is operating correctly.
