Replacing automatic transmission oil seals Audi A6 C5 Quattro
Required tools and materials:
* Tool set
* Drain container
* New automatic transmission seals
* New automatic transmission oil
* Automatic transmission filter (if necessary)
* Sealant for automatic transmission
* Rags
Instructions:
1. Ensure safety:
* Apply the parking brake.
* Install wheel chocks under the wheels.
2. Drain the automatic transmission oil:
* Open the automatic transmission crankcase drain plug and drain the oil into a drain container.
3. Remove the automatic transmission pan:
* Unscrew the automatic transmission pan bolts.
* Carefully remove the pan, be prepared to pour out the remaining oil.
4. Remove the old oil seals:
* Locate and mark the location of the old seals.
* Carefully remove the old seals using a flathead screwdriver or special seal removal tool.
5. Install new oil seals:
* Apply a thin layer of automatic transmission sealant to the outer surface of the new oil seals.
* Press the new seals into their seats using a mandrel or a hammer and mandrel.
* Make sure the seals are installed correctly and fully seated.
6. Install the automatic transmission pan:
* Clean the surface of the pan from old sealant.
* Apply a new layer of sealant to the surface of the pan.
* Reinstall the automatic transmission pan and tighten the bolts.
7. Fill in new automatic transmission oil:
* Open the automatic transmission filler plug.
* Pour new automatic transmission oil into the automatic transmission using a funnel.
* Fill with oil until it begins to flow out of the filler plug.
* Tighten the filler plug.
8. Start the engine:
* After changing the oil, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Shift the automatic transmission gears to distribute the new oil throughout the system.
9. Check the automatic transmission oil level:
* Stop the engine and wait a few minutes for the oil to drain back into the automatic transmission pan.
* Remove the automatic transmission oil level dipstick and check the oil level.
* If necessary, add oil to the required level.
10. Reset the automatic transmission oil change counter:
*If there is an automatic transmission oil change counter on your dashboard, reset it by following the instructions in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
11. Check for leaks:
* Place the car on a flat surface and check for automatic transmission oil leaks under the car.
Notes:
* Use only the type of automatic transmission oil and seals recommended for your Audi A6 C5 Quattro model.
* Replacing automatic transmission seals may require removing some other components, such as the starter or exhaust manifold.
* If necessary, you can replace the automatic transmission filter at the same time as replacing the oil seals.
