Replacing an automatic transmission on a Kia Rio 2017
Materials and tools:
* New automatic transmission
* Transmission fluid
* Transmission fluid filter
* New transmission pan gasket
* New input shaft oil seal
* Set of wrenches and sockets
* Lift or jack and stands
* Rags
* Container for draining transmission fluid
Instructions:
1. Safety: Park the vehicle and block the wheels with stands to prevent it from moving.
2. Draining transmission fluid: Remove the drain plug on the transmission pan and drain the fluid into a container.
3. Removing the transmission pan: Unscrew the bolts securing the pan to the transmission and remove it by carefully prying it off with a flathead screwdriver. Replace the pan gasket with a new one.
4. Transmission Removal: Disconnect the electrical connectors and all associated lines from the transmission.
– Remove the engine mounts and brackets that prevent the transmission from being removed.
– Using a transmission jack or an assistant, remove the transmission from the engine.
– Carefully lower the gearbox and remove it from under the vehicle.
5. Replace the input shaft seal: Inspect and replace the input shaft seal on the new transmission if necessary.
6. Installing a new gearbox:
– Install the new gearbox into place, first connecting it to the engine.
– Connect all electrical connections and pipes.
– Install the engine mounts and brackets and tighten the bolts.
7. Installing the transmission pan: Place a new gasket on the transmission pan and install the pan, tightening the bolts.
8. Filling with transmission fluid: Fill the transmission with new transmission fluid through the inspection hole until the required level is reached.
9. Gearbox adaptation: Start the engine and let it idle for about 15-20 minutes. Shift gears and observe the correct operation of the gearbox.
10. Checking the fluid level: Check the transmission fluid level and add it if necessary.
11. Break-in: Break-in the new transmission with at least 1000 km of driving before subjecting it to severe stress.
