Changing the fluid in the Kia Rio automatic transmission
Tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission fluid (about 4 l)
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Automatic transmission filter
* O-ring for pan plug
* Funnel
* Keys and sockets
* Clean rags
Procedure:
1. Preliminary actions
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
* Let the engine run for a few minutes to warm up the automatic transmission fluid.
* Stop the engine and wait 15 minutes for the fluid to drain into the pan.
2. Draining liquid
* Locate the drain plug on the automatic transmission pan. It is usually located at the bottom of the tray.
* Place a tray under the drain plug to collect the liquid.
* Unscrew the drain plug and drain the liquid into the pan.
* Screw the drain plug back and install a new O-ring.
3. Removing the pan and replacing the filter
* Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan.
* Carefully remove the pan and drain the remaining liquid.
* Remove the old filter and gasket.
* Clean the tray and magnet with a clean rag.
* Install a new filter and gasket.
4. Installation of the pallet
* Apply a small amount of sealant to the pan gasket.
* Reinstall the pan and tighten the bolts.
5. Filling with new fluid
* Insert a funnel into the automatic transmission filler hole.
* Fill in about 3 liters of new fluid.
* Start the engine and shift the automatic transmission selector to each position with a delay of several seconds.
6. Checking the fluid level
* Stop the engine and wait a few minutes.
* Measure the fluid level using the automatic transmission dipstick. The level should be between the «HOT» and «COLD» marks on the dipstick.
*Add fluid if necessary.
7. Reset automatic transmission adaptations (optional)
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for 10-15 minutes.
* Reconnect the terminal.
* Start the engine and let it idle for 10-15 minutes.
* Switch the automatic transmission selector to each position with a delay of several seconds.
Warnings:
* Always use automatic transmission fluid recommended by the manufacturer.
* Do not overtighten the automatic transmission pan bolts.
* Avoid getting dirt or debris into the automatic transmission.
* Dispose of used fluid and filter according to local regulations.
