Materials required to replace the differential in the Honda CR-V RD1 automatic transmission:
* New automatic transmission differential
* Transmission fluid (ATF) Honda DW-1
* Automatic transmission filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Differential repair kit (if necessary)
* Socket wrenches and sockets
* Screwdrivers
* Metal scissors
* Jack and stands
* Drain container
Replacement Instructions:
1. Place the car on stands. Place the vehicle on a level surface, set the parking brake, and raise the front end using a jack. Place stands under the front of the car.
2. Drain the transmission fluid. Find the drain plug on the automatic transmission pan and place a drain container under it. Unscrew the drain plug to drain the transmission fluid.
3. Remove the automatic transmission pan. Clean the pan mounting bolts and unscrew them completely. Be careful as there may still be some transmission fluid left in the pan.
4. Remove the automatic transmission filter. Carefully remove the automatic transmission filter from its slot.
5. Disconnect the speed sensor. Locate the speed sensor on the differential housing and disconnect its connector.
6. Remove the driveshaft. Mark the location of the driveshaft in relation to the differential flanges and disconnect it at both ends.
7. Unscrew the differential mounting bolts. Locate the differential mounting bolts and unscrew them completely.
8. Remove the automatic transmission differential. Carefully pull the differential out of the transmission housing.
9. Install a new differential. Make sure the sealing surfaces are clean, then install the new differential into the transmission housing and tighten the mounting bolts.
10. Install the speed sensor. Reinstall the speed sensor onto the differential housing and connect its connector.
11. Install the driveshaft. Reinstall the driveshaft and tighten its mounting bolts. Make sure you install the driveshaft in the same position as before removal.
12. Install the automatic transmission filter. Install the new automatic transmission filter into its slot.
13. Install the automatic transmission pan. Install the new pan gasket in place and install the pan back onto the transmission. Tighten the pan mounting bolts.
14. Fill with transmission fluid. Fill the transmission with new Honda DW-1 transmission fluid. The fluid level should be between the «MAX» and «MIN» marks on the dipstick.
15. Check the fluid level. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Check the transmission fluid level with the dipstick and adjust as necessary.
16. Reset transmission adaptations. Disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes to reset the transmission adaptations.
17. Test drive. Take the car for a test drive and check the operation of the transmission.
Adviсe:
* Be sure to use original or manufacturer approved parts.
* Be careful not to damage the sealing surfaces when installing and removing components.
* Clean all components of dirt and metal filings before installation.
*Tighten all bolts and nuts to proper torque.
* Resetting transmission adaptations is important for proper operation after replacing the differential.
