Changing the oil in a Renault Duster automatic transmission
Tools and materials:
* Automatic transmission oil Renault Dexron III or IV (about 6 liters)
* New oil filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* 8 mm hex key
* Screwdriver
* Funnel
* Container for old oil (volume of at least 6 liters)
Replacement procedure:
1. Preparation
* Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface and in park mode.
* Raise the car on jacks or place it on a lift.
2. Drain old oil
* Unscrew the automatic transmission pan drain plug with an 8 mm hex key.
* Place a container for old oil under the drain hole.
* Allow the oil to drain completely.
* Tighten the drain plug with a new O-ring.
3. Removing the automatic transmission pan
* Unscrew the automatic transmission pan mounting bolts with a screwdriver.
* Carefully remove the tray.
4. Replacing the oil filter
*Remove the old oil filter.
* Install a new oil filter.
5. Cleaning the tray and magnets
* Clean the pan of any remaining old oil and metal shavings.
* Wash the magnets on the pan and the automatic transmission housing with solvent.
6. Installing the automatic transmission pan
* Install the gasket on the automatic transmission pan.
* Screw the pan to the automatic transmission housing.
* Tighten the bolts evenly.
7. Filling with new fluid
* Insert a funnel into the automatic transmission filler hole.
* Pour new oil into the automatic transmission until it flows out of the inspection hole.
8. Oil level control
* Start the engine and move the automatic transmission selector to all positions.
* When the engine overheat indicator lights up, turn off the engine.
* Check the oil level in the automatic transmission through the inspection hole.
* If the oil does not flow out, add a small amount of oil.
9. Resetting the automatic transmission oil change counter
* Start the engine and select mode «D».
* Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold it for 10 seconds.
* Release the gas pedal and wait 3 minutes.
* Turn off the ignition.
10. Completion
* Reinstall the crankcase guard.
* Lower the vehicle to the ground.
Frequency of automatic transmission oil changes:
* Every 90,000 — 120,000 km or every 5 years, whichever comes first.
