Tools and materials:

* New automatic transmission filter
* Automatic transmission filter gasket
* Automatic transmission fluid
* Tool set (ratchet, extension, sockets)
* Container for draining transmission fluid
* Gloves

Steps:

1. Ensure safety: Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake and install wheel chocks.

2. Drain the transmission fluid: Place a container under the automatic transmission pan and remove the drain plug. Drain the liquid into a container.

3. Remove the automatic transmission pan: Remove the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan. Carefully separate the pan from the automatic transmission housing using a screwdriver or plastic spatula.

4. Replace the automatic transmission filter: Remove the old filter and install a new one. The new filter’s O-ring must be lubricated with transmission fluid.

5. Replace the pan gasket: Remove the old pan gasket and clean the surfaces. Install a new gasket on the pan.

6. Install the automatic transmission pan: Place the pan in place and tighten the bolts. Tighten them in a crisscross pattern to ensure even tightening.

7. Fill with transmission fluid: Fill with new transmission fluid through the dipstick hole. The fluid level should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks on the dipstick.

8. Check for leaks: Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Check under the car for transmission fluid leaks.

9. Reset the transmission fluid meter: If your vehicle is equipped with a transmission fluid meter, reset it to zero using a scan tool.

10. Take a test drive: Drive the car to make sure the automatic transmission is working properly.
