Tools and materials:
* Wrench set
* Heads and knobs
* Mounting crowbar
* Transmission jack
* Car stands
* Oil drain container
* Special oil for automatic transmission
* Automatic transmission oil pan gasket
* New automatic transmission filter (optional)
Precautions:
* Secure your vehicle by setting the parking brake and chocks the wheels.
* Let the engine cool down before starting work.
*Refer to the repair manual for your specific vehicle.
Automatic transmission removal procedure:
1. Drain the transmission fluid:
* Loosen the drain plug of the automatic transmission oil pan and drain the fluid into a container.
* Screw the drain plug back.
2. Disconnect the battery:
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent accidental starting of the ignition.
3. Remove the air filter (optional):
*You may need to remove the air filter to access the automatic transmission.
4. Disconnect the automatic transmission cooling lines:
* Locate the automatic transmission cooling lines running from the radiator to the automatic transmission.
* Loosen the clamps and disconnect the lines.
5. Disconnect the automatic transmission electrical harness:
* Locate the electrical harness connected to the automatic transmission.
* Disconnect the harness by pressing the latch or connector.
6. Remove the driveshaft:
* Remove the nuts securing the driveshaft to the automatic transmission flange.
* Move the driveshaft to the side.
7. Disconnect the drive shafts:
* Remove the nuts securing the drive shafts to the wheel hubs.
* Hit the drive shafts with a mounting crowbar and pull them out of the automatic transmission.
8. Unscrew the automatic transmission mounting bolts:
* Locate the bolts securing the automatic transmission to the engine and mounts.
* Loosen the bolts, but do not unscrew them completely.
9. Place the transmission jack:
* Place the transmission jack under the automatic transmission and raise the jack high enough to support the automatic transmission.
10. Unscrew the automatic transmission mounting bolts (finally):
* Completely unscrew the automatic transmission mounting bolts that were loosened earlier.
11. Remove the automatic transmission:
* Carefully pull the automatic transmission back and lower it onto the transmission jack.
* Carefully move the automatic transmission to the rear of the car and remove it from below.
Adviсe:
* Work carefully to avoid damaging the automatic transmission or other components.
* If you are removing the automatic transmission for replacement, it is highly recommended that you replace the oil pan gasket and automatic transmission filter.
* Before removing the automatic transmission, clean the area around it to prevent dirt from getting inside the transmission.
* Be careful with transmission fluid as it is hot and can be dangerous.
* When tightening the automatic transmission mounting bolts, use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightening torque.
