Automatic transmission removal procedure
1. Ensure safety. Set the parking brake and block the wheels with chocks. Disconnect the battery to prevent short circuit.
2. Drain the automatic transmission fluid. Find the drain plug on the automatic transmission pan and place a drain pan under it. Open the drain plug and drain the liquid.
3. Disconnect the driveshaft. Remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the transfer case flange. Using a driveshaft puller, remove the driveshaft from the transfer case.
4. Disconnect electrical wiring and vacuum hoses. Locate all electrical connectors and vacuum hoses connected to the automatic transmission and disconnect them.
5. Disconnect the gear selector. Remove the trim on the center console, unscrew the bolts and disconnect the gear selector from the automatic transmission.
6. Disconnect transmission cooling lines. Locate the transmission cooling lines connected to the radiator and disconnect them.
7. Unscrew the automatic transmission mounting bolts. Locate the bolts that secure the automatic transmission to the engine and vehicle frame. Unscrew all the bolts, but do not remove them completely.
8. Install the lift. Carefully lift the transmission using a lift until it is clear of the engine and frame.
9. Remove the automatic transmission. Remove the automatic transmission completely from the vehicle.
Note: When removing the automatic transmission, be careful as it is heavy. To make the process easier, it is recommended to use an assistant.
