Removing automatic transmission Mitsubishi Outlander with all-wheel drive

Tools and materials:

*Socket set
* Wrench set
* Pliers
* Extension cord
* Collar
* Drain pan for automatic transmission fluid
* New automatic transmission crankcase gasket
* New automatic transmission fluid

Procedure:

1. Ensure safety. Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Drain the automatic transmission fluid. Place the pan under the automatic transmission housing and unscrew the drain plug. Drain the liquid into the pan.

3. Disconnect the negative wire from the transmission harness leg. Locate the negative wire in the transmission harness leg and disconnect it from the connector.

4. Disconnect the automatic transmission oil cooling hose from the automatic transmission side. Locate the automatic transmission oil cooler hose connected to the automatic transmission and loosen the clamp holding it in place. Gently pull the hose to disconnect it from the automatic transmission. Place a cap on the end of the hose to prevent fluid from leaking.

5. Remove the starter. Unscrew the bolts securing the starter to the cylinder block and remove the starter.

6. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Loosen the bolts holding the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold and remove it.

7. Disconnect the drive shafts from the differential. Unscrew the nuts securing the drive shafts to the differential and remove them.

8. Disconnect the driveshaft. Unscrew the bolts securing the driveshaft to the transfer case flange and remove it.

9. Disconnect the torque rod. Unscrew the nuts securing the torque rod to the automatic transmission and subframe and remove it.

10. Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission to the engine. Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission to the engine.

11. Move the automatic transmission away from the engine. Use a pry bar to carefully pry the transmission away from the engine. Be careful not to damage engine or automatic transmission components.

12. Remove the automatic transmission. Carefully lift the automatic transmission and remove it from the engine.

Installation:

1. Install a new automatic transmission housing gasket.
2. Reinstall the automatic transmission.
3. Tighten the bolts securing the automatic transmission to the engine.
4. Connect the torque rod.
5. Install the driveshaft.
6. Connect the drive shafts.
7. Install the exhaust pipe.
8. Install the starter.
9. Connect the automatic transmission oil cooling hose.
10. Connect the negative cable to the transmission harness leg.
11. Fill with automatic transmission fluid.
12. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
