Replacing the rear crankshaft oil seal on a Peugeot 308 with automatic transmission
Required tools and materials:
* Set of keys and sockets
* Screwdriver
* Seal puller
* New oil seal gasket
* Gearbox repair kit (if necessary)
* Transmission fluid
* Rags
Replacement procedure:
1. Preparation
* Place the vehicle on a lift or a level surface.
* Remove the lower engine protection.
* Drain the transmission fluid from the gearbox.
2. Removing the transmission
* Disconnect the driveshaft from the gearbox.
* Remove the distributor housing from the gearbox.
* Unscrew the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine and separate it from it.
* Remove the gearbox from under the vehicle.
3. Removing the torque convector (which is located on the other side of the oil seal)
* Remove the bolts securing the torque convector to the flywheel and to the cylinder block.
* Remove the torque convector.
4. Removing the old oil seal
* Carefully insert the oil seal puller between the oil seal and the cylinder block.
* Hook the oil seal with a puller and pull it out of the seat.
5. Installing a new oil seal
* Clean the oil seal seat of old sealant and gasket.
* Apply a thin layer of sealant around the edges of the seat.
* Install a new oil seal gasket.
* Insert the new oil seal into the seat using a mounting mandrel or by hand. Make sure the oil seal is installed straight and fully seated in the groove.
6. Transmission assembly
* Reinstall the torque convector and tighten the mounting bolts.
* Reinstall the gearbox and tighten the mounting bolts.
* Attach the distributor housing to the gearbox and secure it.
* Connect the driveshaft to the gearbox.
7. Final work
* Fill with new transmission fluid.
* Install the lower engine protection.
* Reset the transmission learning counter (if required on your vehicle).
Adviсe:
* Before replacing the oil seal, it is recommended to check the condition of the gearbox oil pump.
* When installing a new oil seal, make sure that its lip is directed towards the inside of the engine.
