Replacing the rear crankshaft oil seal on a Megan 2 automatic transmission
Tools and materials:
* Set of keys
* Collar
* Heads for 10, 13, 16 and 18 mm
* Flat blade screwdriver
* Oil seal puller, if available
* Clean rags
* Container for draining automatic transmission oil and transmission fluid (ATF)
* New rear crankshaft oil seal
* Transmission sealant
Replacement procedure:
1. Ensure safety: Place the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake and block the wheels.
2. Drain the automatic transmission fluid: Locate and open the automatic transmission pan drain plug. Collect the drained liquid in a container.
3. Remove the drive shafts: Remove the bolts securing the drive shafts to the hubs. Use a screwdriver to separate them.
4. Disconnect the transmission: Remove the bolts securing the transmission to the engine. Carefully lower the transmission onto the jack.
5. Remove the flywheel: Remove the bolts securing the flywheel to the crankshaft. Remove the flywheel.
6. Remove the old oil seal: Carefully pry out the old oil seal with a screwdriver or oil seal puller.
7. Clean the seat: Thoroughly clean the oil seal seat on the crankshaft and in the gearbox housing.
8. Install the new oil seal: Apply a small amount of sealant to the crankcase seat and install the new oil seal in place. Put on the flywheel.
9. Install the transmission: Lift the transmission and install it in place. Tighten the mounting bolts.
10. Install drive shafts: Insert the drive shafts into the transmission and tighten the mounting bolts.
11. Fill the automatic transmission fluid: Fill the automatic transmission with the required amount of fluid. Use the correct ATF specification for your vehicle.
12. Bleed the system: Start the engine and shift the gearshift lever to all positions, holding each position for approximately 10 seconds. Turn off the engine and check the fluid level. Add fluid if necessary.
Adviсe:
* Before installation, lubricate the new oil seal with transmission fluid.
* Be careful when using a screwdriver to remove the seal to avoid damaging the seal.
* Check the condition of the friction linings on the flywheel. Replace them if necessary.
*If you do not have an oil seal puller, you can use two screwdrivers to pry and remove the oil seal.
