Replacing the rear crankshaft oil seal on Honda Civic 4D cars with automatic transmission

Tools and materials:

* Set of keys and screwdrivers
* Jack and stands
* Oil filter puller
* Rags
* New rear crankshaft oil seal
* Sealant for gaskets (optional)

Procedure:

1. Preparing the car

* Place the car on a level surface.
* Raise the front of the car using a jack and place it on stands for safety.

2. Draining transmission fluid

* Locate the drain plug on the transmission pan.
* Place a container under the drain plug.
* Carefully unscrew the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.

3. Removing the drive shaft

* Disconnect the lower stabilizer link from the control arm.
* Remove the wheel.
* Unscrew the bolts securing the drive to the wheel hub.
* Carefully remove the drive shaft from the transmission.

4. Removing the gearbox

* Unscrew the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.
* Disconnect the electrical connectors, cables and tubes from the transmission.
* While supporting the transmission with a jack, carefully remove it from the engine and lower it to the ground.

5. Replacing the crankshaft oil seal

* Carefully pry out the old oil seal using a screwdriver.
* Clean the seating surface on the crankshaft and transmission housing of old sealant and debris.
* Apply a thin coat of new sealant to the seating surface on the crankshaft if required.
* Install the new oil seal into the transmission housing using a mandrel or carefully driving it in with a hammer.

6. Assembly of the unit

* Reinstall the gearbox and tighten the mounting bolts.
* Connect all connectors, cables and tubes.
* Install the drive shaft.
* Install the wheel.

7. Filling with new transmission fluid

* Locate the filler plug on the transmission.
* Fill the transmission with new transmission oil to the specifications of your Honda Civic.
* Tighten the drain and fill plugs.

8. Final assembly

* Install the lower stabilizer link joint.
* Connect the battery.
* Check the transmission fluid level and add if necessary.

9. Testing

* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Move the gear shift lever to different positions and check for transmission fluid leaks.
