How to change gears in a Peugeot with an automatic transmission
Typical Peugeot automatic transmission modes:
* P (Park): Locks the transmission when the vehicle is parked.
* R (Reverse): Shifts the transmission into reverse mode.
* N (Neutral): Disengages the transmission, allowing the vehicle to roll freely.
* D (Drive): Standard driving mode, automatically changes gears depending on load and speed.
Shifting gears on the selector:
1. Press the brake pedal and move the gear selector to the desired mode: P, R, N or D.
2. Release the brake pedal so that the vehicle starts moving in the selected mode.
Using steering column switches (if equipped):
1. Push or pull the steering column switch towards you to shift to a higher gear.
2. Push or pull the steering column switch away from you to shift to a lower gear.
Sport shift modes:
Some Peugeot models are equipped with sport shift modes:
* S (Sport): Shifts the transmission to a mode optimized for more performance driving, with later upshifts.
* M (Manual): Allows you to manually change gears using the selector or steering wheel paddles.
Shifting gears in M mode:
1. Move the gear selector to M mode.
2. Use the selector or steering wheel paddles to manually shift up or down.
3. To return to automatic mode, shift the gear selector to position D.
Adviсe:
* Always stop the vehicle and apply the parking brake before moving the transmission selector to P.
* Do not switch to D mode if the vehicle is moving in reverse and vice versa.
* Use the steering wheel paddle shifters to force gear changes in special situations such as overtaking or going downhill.
* In M mode, do not exceed the maximum engine speed specified in the vehicle’s owner’s manual.
