Changing the oil in an automatic transmission (automatic transmission) Peugeot 408

Required materials and tools:

* New ATF gear oil (see owner’s manual for specific specifications)
* Automatic transmission filter (if changed)
* Automatic transmission pan gasket (if changed)
* Funnel or syringe for pouring oil
* Wrench or ratchet with heads
* Hex key
* Brush for cleaning the automatic transmission pan
*Clean cloth or paper towels

Instructions:

1. Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

2. Warm up the engine to operating temperature and then turn it off.

3. Open the hood and remove the automatic transmission dipstick cover.

4. Raise the vehicle using a jack or lift.

5. Find the automatic transmission pan and remove the drain plug. The location of the drain plug may vary depending on the model and year of the vehicle.

6. Drain the old oil into a container.

7. Remove the automatic transmission pan. To do this, you may need to remove some bolts or screws.

8. Replace the automatic transmission filter (optional).

9. Clean the automatic transmission pan with a brush and rag.

10. Replace the automatic transmission pan gasket (optional).

11. Reinstall the automatic transmission pan and tighten the bolts or screws.

12. Install the drain plug with a new gasket and tighten it.

13. Fill the automatic transmission with new oil through the dipstick hole. The volume of oil to be filled may vary depending on the model and year of manufacture of the vehicle.

14. Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick. The oil level should be between the “min” and “max” marks.

15. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.

16. Shift the gear selector to all positions and return it to the park position.

17. Check the oil level again and add if necessary.

18. Remove the vehicle from a jack or lift.

19. Reset the automatic transmission oil change counter (optional).

Adviсe:

* It is recommended to change the automatic transmission oil every 40,000 – 60,000 km or in accordance with the maintenance schedule.
* Use only oil recommended by the manufacturer.
* When replacing the automatic transmission filter, it is also recommended to replace the pan gasket.
*If you have never changed your automatic transmission oil before, it is best to seek help from a qualified mechanic.
