Materials and tools:
* New outboard bearing
* Spare bolts (optional)
* Wrench set
* Ratchet sockets
* Jack
* Stands
* Graphite grease
Replacement procedure:
1. Raise the car. Use a jack and place stands under the front of the car.
2. Remove the engine protection. Most cars have a plastic or metal engine guard that must be removed to access the outboard bearing.
3. Loosen the hanger bearing bolts. Use a wrench or socket to loosen the bolts holding the outboard bearing to the driveshaft. Do not unscrew the bolts completely at this stage.
4. Place a support under the propeller shaft. Place a jack or other support under the driveshaft in the area of the hanger bearing. This will prevent it from falling when removing the bearing.
5. Remove the hanger bearing bolts. Unscrew the bolts completely and remove the suspension bearing from the driveshaft.
6. Install a new outboard bearing. Apply graphite grease to the inside surface of the new bearing. Align the bearing with the driveshaft and tighten the bolts by hand.
7. Tighten the hanger bearing bolts. Using a torque wrench, tighten the bolts to the torque specified in your vehicle’s service manual.
8. Install engine protection. Reinstall the engine protection and secure it with bolts.
9. Lower the vehicle. Slowly lower the vehicle using a jack.
10. Check the transmission fluid level. When replacing the outboard bearing, fluid may leak from the transmission. Check the fluid level and add it if necessary.
Adviсe:
*If the outboard bearing bolts are heavily rusted or stuck, use a penetrating lubricant to make them easier to remove.
*Tighten bolts to the specified torque to prevent over-tightening or under-tightening.
*If you notice any signs of damage to the driveshaft, have it inspected by a qualified mechanic.
