Materials:
* New automatic transmission oil (Dexron VI or equivalent recommended)
* Automatic transmission filter
* Automatic transmission housing or pan gasket
* Drain plug seal washers
* Funnel
* Wrenches or ratchet
* Torque wrench
* Lift or jacks and stands
Safety:
* Let the vehicle cool down before starting work.
* Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
Procedure:
1. Raise the vehicle: Raise the vehicle on a lift or using jacks and stands.
2. Remove the engine protection: If there is an engine protection, remove it to gain access to the automatic transmission pan.
3. Drain the oil: Place a container under the pan to drain the oil. Using a wrench or ratchet, carefully unscrew the drain plug and drain the oil into a container.
4. Replace the filter and gasket: After the oil has drained, remove the oil pan. Then replace the automatic transmission filter and pan gasket with new ones.
5. Clean the pan: Clean the pan of old oil and debris.
6. Reinstall the pan: Reinstall the automatic transmission pan and tighten the bolts with a torque wrench to the appropriate torque.
7. Add new oil: Using a funnel, fill the transmission with new oil according to the operating instructions.
8. Check the oil level: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then turn off the engine and wait about 10 minutes for the oil to drain back into the pan. Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick. Add oil if necessary.
9. Reset the automatic transmission oil aging counter: Using the diagnostic scan tool, reset the automatic transmission oil aging counter. This will help you determine exactly when your next oil change is due.
10. Connect the battery: Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
11. Check the operation of the automatic transmission: Start the engine and switch to all automatic transmission modes to make sure that it is working properly.
Notes:
* A partial automatic transmission oil change removes only about 40% of the old oil. For a more complete replacement, a complete flushing of the system is required.
* Regular automatic transmission oil changes help extend the life of the transmission and ensure its optimal performance.
*Always check your vehicle’s owner’s manual to determine the recommended automatic transmission oil change interval and oil type.
