Step-by-step instructions for partially changing automatic transmission oil in a Nissan Terrano

Required materials and tools:

* New automatic transmission oil that meets specifications (about 3-4 liters)
* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* Automatic transmission filter (optional, if not very dirty)
* Set of keys and sockets
* Funnel
* Bucket for draining used oil

Precautions:

* Carry out the replacement with the engine warm (about 10 minutes at idle speed).
* Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface and the parking brake is set.

Step by step instructions:

1. Drain old oil

* Find the automatic transmission pan drain plug. It is usually located at the bottom of the tray.
* Place a bucket under the plug and loosen it using a wrench or socket.
* Drain the used oil into a bucket.

2. Removing the automatic transmission pan

* Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan.
* Carefully remove the pan without damaging the gasket.

3. Cleaning the pan and replacing the filter (if necessary)

* Clean the automatic transmission pan from deposits and dirt.
* If the automatic transmission filter is very dirty, replace it with a new one.

4. Installing the automatic transmission pan

* Install a new gasket on the pan.
* Screw the pan into place and tighten the bolts.

5. Filling with new oil

* Using a funnel, pour about 3 liters of new oil into the automatic transmission.
* Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick.

6. Checking the oil level

* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
* Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes for the oil to drain into the pan.
* Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick. Add oil as necessary to bring the level to the “HOT” mark.

7. Resetting the automatic transmission oil aging counter (if available on the model)

* After changing the oil, you must reset the automatic transmission oil aging counter.
*Refer to your Nissan Terrano owner’s manual for specific instructions.

Note:

* A partial automatic transmission oil change does not replace a complete change. Regular partial oil changes can help extend the life of your automatic transmission.
* The automatic transmission oil change interval depends on the Nissan Terrano model and operating conditions. Refer to the instruction manual for specific recommendations.
