Required materials:
* New automatic transmission oil that meets Mercedes-Benz specifications (approximately 6 liters for partial replacement)
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
*Transmission sealant (optional)
* Soft bristle brush
* Rags
Tools:
* Driver with extension
* 8 mm head
* 10 mm head
* Oil drain container
Procedure:
1. Preparation.
* Place the vehicle on a level surface, turn off the engine and set the parking brake.
* Allow the engine to cool so that the oil does not get too hot.
2. Drain the oil.
* Open the hood and find the automatic transmission oil level dipstick. Remove the dipstick and clean it.
* Crawl under the car and find the automatic transmission pan.
* Place a container to drain the oil under the oil pan drain plug.
* Unscrew the drain plug with an 8mm wrench and drain the oil.
3. Replacing the pan gasket.
* After the oil stops draining, unscrew the bolts securing the pan to the gearbox using a 10 mm wrench.
* Carefully remove the pan from the transmission.
* Clean the surfaces of the pan and gearbox of old sealant.
* Apply a thin layer of new sealant to the surface of the pan adjacent to the transmission.
* Attach a new pan gasket to the pan and install the pan back onto the transmission.
* Tighten the pan bolts by hand and then use a wrench to tighten them to the recommended torque.
4. Filling with new oil.
* Pour in about 4 liters of new automatic transmission oil through the dipstick.
* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, changing gears.
* Turn off the engine and check the oil level with the engine warm.
*Add oil as necessary to achieve the correct level.
5. Level check.
* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Remove the automatic transmission oil level dipstick, wipe off the oil and insert it back.
* Remove the dipstick again and check the oil level. The level should be between the “MIN” and “MAX” marks on the dipstick.
Notes:
* Regular partial automatic transmission oil changes will help extend the life of the gearbox.
* It is recommended to perform a partial oil change every 40,000 – 60,000 km.
* A complete automatic transmission oil change is a more complex task, requiring special equipment.
