Step-by-step instructions for partially changing automatic transmission oil on a Land Rover
Tools and materials:
*Fresh gear oil recommended for your Land Rover model
* Tray for collecting used oil
* Funnel
* Set of keys
* Isopropyl alcohol (for cleaning pan and filter)
Safety:
* Make sure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is turned off.
* Allow the engine to cool for at least 30 minutes to avoid burns from hot oil.
Steps:
1. Raise the car
* Raise the car on a lift or using jacks.
* Make sure the vehicle is securely secured.
2. Find the automatic transmission pan
* The automatic transmission pan is usually located at the bottom of the transmission.
* Locate the drain plug on the pan.
3. Drain the used oil
* Place an oil pan under the drain hole.
* Loosen the drain plug and allow the used oil to drain into the pan.
*Allow the oil to drain completely, this may take some time.
4. Clean the pan and filter
* Remove the automatic transmission pan.
* Clean the pan and filter of used oil and metal shavings using isopropyl alcohol.
