Transmission Control Unit (TCU)

Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin models:

* Pajero Pinin GDI (1.8 l)
* Pajero Pinin MPI (2.0 l)

Automatic transmission type:

* INVECS II (4-speed)

Location:

* The automatic transmission control unit is usually located under the hood, to the left of the engine.

Designations:

* T18 (Pajero Pinin GDI)
* T14 (Pajero Pinin MPI)

Functions:

The Transmission Control Unit (TCU) is an electronic device that controls the operation of the automatic transmission (AT) in a vehicle. It receives input data from various sensors such as:

* Throttle Position Sensor
*Speed sensor
* Engine speed sensor

The TCU processes this data and calculates when and how to shift gears, adjust torque converter lock-up and prevent wheel spin.

Possible malfunctions and their symptoms:

* Incorrect gear shifting: Hard or delayed shifts, slipping gears, knocking noises when shifting.
* Limp mode: The automatic transmission goes into limp mode, limiting the number of gears available.
* Check Engine Light: May indicate a problem with the TCU or automatic transmission.
* Problems with driving modes: Sport or Eco mode does not work.
*Oil Leaks: May be a sign of a faulty TCU or automatic transmission.

Diagnostics:

Diagnosing TCU faults usually includes:

*Using a diagnostic scanner to read trouble codes (DTCs).
* Checking electrical connectors and wiring.
* Measurement of input and output values of sensors.

Repair:

Repairing a faulty TCU may include:

* TCU reprogramming
* TCU replacement
* Wiring repair

Warning: It is not recommended to attempt to repair the TCU yourself. It is recommended that you have the TCU diagnosed and repaired by a qualified mechanic or authorized service center.
