Required tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Automatic transmission oil (if necessary)
* Working container for waste oil
* Funnel
* Set of wrenches or sockets
* 8 mm hex key
Procedure for replacing the automatic transmission filter in an Opel Vectra B with automatic transmission:
1. Gather the necessary tools and materials.
2. Prepare the car. Park the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool.
3. Disconnect the battery. Protect yourself by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery.
4. Identify the automatic transmission pan. The automatic transmission pan is located at the bottom of the gearbox. It is usually secured with bolts.
5. Drain the automatic transmission oil. Place a work container under the automatic transmission pan. Loosen the pan bolts slightly so that the oil begins to drain.
6. Remove the automatic transmission pan. Once the oil has drained, completely unscrew the pan bolts and remove the pan from the transmission.
7. Remove the old automatic transmission filter. The old filter is usually attached to the automatic transmission pan with bolts. Unscrew the bolts and remove the filter.
8. Clean the tray and magnet. Clean the automatic transmission pan and magnet from metal shavings and debris.
9. Install a new automatic transmission filter. Install the new filter into the automatic transmission pan and secure it with bolts.
10. Install a new automatic transmission pan gasket. Apply a thin layer of transmission sealant to the new pan gasket and install the gasket to the transmission pan.
11. Install the automatic transmission pan. Lift the transmission pan and install it in place on the transmission. Tighten the pan bolts diagonally to ensure an even seal.
12. Fill the automatic transmission with oil. Using a funnel, pour new automatic transmission oil into the transmission. Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick.
13. Connect the battery. Place the negative battery terminal back into place.
14. Check the automatic transmission oil level. Start the engine and warm up the engine. Shift into each gear and return to park. Check the oil level on the automatic transmission dipstick. If necessary, add oil.
Notes:
* It is recommended that you refer to your vehicle’s repair manual for specific instructions and tightening torques.
* Use only automatic transmission oil recommended by the manufacturer.
*If you change the automatic transmission filter yourself, be careful not to damage the transmission.
*If you have any problems or questions, please contact a qualified mechanic.
