Required materials:
* New Dexron VI gear oil (approx. 5.5 liters)
* New automatic transmission filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Oil filter (if equipped)
* 19 mm socket wrench
* 10 mm socket wrench
* Pliers
* Funnel
* Oil drain pan
Replacement procedure:
Removing and cleaning the automatic transmission pan:
1. Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Turn off the engine and let it cool.
3. Locate the automatic transmission pan under the car and place a pan to drain the oil under it.
4. Unscrew the pan mounting bolts with a 19 mm socket wrench.
5. Remove the pan and carefully drain the remaining oil.
6. Clean the tray and magnet from metal shavings and other contaminants.
Replacing the automatic transmission filter:
1. Find the automatic transmission filter in the center of the pan.
2. Unfasten the latches and remove the old filter.
3. Install the new filter and secure it with the clips.
Replacing the pan gasket:
1. Remove the old gasket from the pan.
2. Install a new gasket on the pan.
Pallet installation:
1. Apply a small amount of transmission oil to the pan gasket.
2. Reinstall the pan and tighten the mounting bolts with a 19 mm socket wrench.
3. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern to ensure an even seal.
Filling transmission oil:
1. Find the automatic transmission filler plug and remove it.
2. Insert a funnel into the filler hole.
3. Fill the transmission with new Dexron VI gear oil (about 5.5 liters).
4. Install the filler plug.
Resetting the automatic transmission oil change counter (if equipped):
1. Start the engine and let it warm up.
2. Turn off the engine.
3. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
4. Press and hold the brake pedal for 10 seconds.
5. Turn off the ignition.
6. Start the engine and let it idle for 10 seconds.
7. Turn off the engine.
8. The automatic transmission oil change counter must be reset.
Checking the oil level:
1. Let the vehicle idle for a few minutes.
2. Place the automatic transmission selector in all positions (P, R, N, D) and return to position P.
3. Pull out the automatic transmission oil level dipstick and check the oil level.
4. The oil level should be between the “Hot” and “Cold” marks on the dipstick.
5. Add oil if necessary using a funnel and repeating steps 4-5.
