Procedure:
1. Gather information: Interview the owner about the symptoms and history of the vehicle.
2. Visual inspection: Check for transmission fluid leaks, damage to wiring and connectors.
3. Reading fault codes: Reading and decoding codes using a diagnostic scanner.
4. Checking the transmission fluid level: Remove the dipstick and check the fluid level for signs of contamination or a burning smell.
5. Solenoid Diagnostics: Check the operation of the shift solenoids using a diagnostic scan tool or by direct resistance measurement.
6. Checking Sensors and Switches: Check that the shift position sensor, speed sensor and other relevant sensors are operating correctly.
7. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Visually inspect wiring and connectors for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
8. Shift Test: Start the engine and shift the vehicle through all gears to evaluate smoothness and absence of slipping or bumping.
9. Check torque converter operation: Listen for unusual noises or vibrations while the engine is running and gear shifting.
10. Assess Friction Disc and Band Wear: Review trouble codes, vehicle history and symptoms to assess potential wear on these components.
